Job Title:  Developer - Ruby on Rails 
Location:  Remote; Newfoundland and Labrador
Schedule:  Monday - Friday 10 AM - 6 PM Atlantic Time
Job Type:  Full Time; Permanent

At VidCruiter, our innovative approach to recruitment uses advanced technology to streamline and enhance the hiring process for companies across various industries. We are looking for a skilled Software Developer to join our team and lead the development of cutting-edge hiring solutions.

 

What You’ll Do:

In this significant role, you will drive the development of backend solutions and optimize processes, focusing on improving interactions between our Ruby-on-Rails application and MySQL database. You will restructure data, enhance application features for better performance, and assist with scalability planning. Your work will help shape our digital offerings and drive innovation in recruitment practices.

 

While no two days are the same, here’s what you can expect from this role:

  • Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable, or reliable Ruby on Rails code.

  • Lead and contribute to the development of robust architecture and user-centric functionality.

  • Optimize the performance of interactions between a Ruby-on-Rails application and a MySQL database.

  • Restructure data and improve application features for better performance.

  • Analyze data, processes, and code to diagnose issues, troubleshoot problems, and identify opportunities for optimization and enhancement.

  • Build and maintain scalable infrastructure to support new features and technologies.

  • Ensure the security of the website and user information.

  • Perform UI tests to validate system functionality.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in web development and apply them to operations and activities.

  • Assist with planning to ensure the continued scalability of applications.

What we're looking for:

  • Relevant work experience or a College diploma with coursework in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • 2+ experience in Ruby on Rails development, and ability to handle responsibilities at an intermediate to senior level.

  • A strong understanding of Ruby on Rails, its core principles, and workflows.

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable applications and APIs (RESTful).

  • Proficiency in version control (e.g., Git) and knowledge of automated testing and continuous integration.

  • Understanding of application clustering, load balancing, and high availability concepts.

  • Familiarity with Agile and waterfall methodologies.

  • Experience with AWS is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to manage projects, work independently, and collaborate within a team.

  • Knowledge of additional programming languages (Java, PHP, Python) is a plus.
